When do we switch to Digital TV?

Published: 17 October 2008 in TV and Brandband

When do we switch to Digital TV?

By 2012 the Government aims to completely switch off the analogue terrestrial transmissions network that has been our source of watching television since the 1930’s. The old analogue transmission is to be replaced with the new all digital terrestrial network. The switchover began this year but how many people are actually aware of it? When do we switch to Digital TV?

The Border area has already started to make the switch over and expects to be fully digital by 2009. So if you need to make the switch, then it is best to make it now. Here at JSTFinancial.co.uk we have a comprehensive list of Digital TV providers to choose from. We also have all the information you will need to know about the forthcoming switch on our site.

By making the switch over to the new digital broadcast, the consumer benefits in many ways. They will have the advantage of a better reception, a much more comprehensive picture and sound quality as well as being in a position to enjoy a wider variety of fresh channels and interactive features on their TV. You will be able to use your new digital broadcast to pause, rewind and record live TV so you won’t have to miss any more of your favourite shows. There will also be on-demand viewing, catch up TV, plus music videos and movies for you watch at the touch of a button!

Further down the line, many of us who own a High Definition (HD) TV will benefit from almost crystal clear viewing as many of our most popular channels will begin to transmit using this signal. Old shows you used to watch in the analogue signal can be re-broadcast in HD for an even more pleasurable viewing experience. With more and more people using broadband, there will be an increase in download speeds which means that additional on-demand programmes will become available for you to view at your own leisure.

We have listed the regions making the switch to Digital TV below for your perusal and benefit.
