What do I need for the switch?

Published: 23 October 2008 in TV and Brandband

What do I need to do for the switch?

Getting your home ready for the switch is actually quite simple. There are however a few things for you to take into consideration.

Check how many TV’s you have in your home

Every TV you have in your house that you want to continue using needs to be checked. Any of the televisions you have that are not converted will no longer work following the switch.

Recording your favourite TV shows

You will still be able to use your old video and DVD players to record programmes and play them back. However, the old video and DVD recorders can’t record one programme whilst you watch another. If you would like the choice of recording one programme whilst you watch another, then you may want to consider buying a digital TV recorder that will also adapt to your TV.

Check your current TV aerial

If you want to receive one of the digital services like Freeview, BT Vision or Top Up TV you may have to improve your current aerial. Around 5-10% of rooftop aerials and around 50% of set top aerials will be affected by the switch.

Satellite services

You shouldn’t generally have any problems if you want to use a digital satellite service, however, if you live in a conservation area or a listed building, you may need planning permission.

Radio

Your radio will not be affected by the switch over.
