'Come together' at crunch time

Published: 20 November 2008 in Remortgage

The credit crunch may have one bright side - the opportunity to bring Britons closer together as they all battle through the same problem, one sector commentator has claimed.

A spokesperson for the Centre for Equality and Diversity said the ongoing economic downturn was likely to bring people closer rather than highlighting the differences between them.

"There are signs of the gaps between rich and poor increasing, but again that is due to social status and the housing market might have helped that gap to widen," he stated.

The representative concluded that there were still opportunities for Britons to increase their personal wealth, despite the pressure of the credit crunch.

According to a study by the National Social Marketing Centre and University College London, almost seven in ten (69 per cent) of respondents felt that it was important to reduce income differences between the richest and poorest groups of society in Britain.
