Student properties 'a wise investment'

Published: 29 September 2008 in Unsecured Loans

Student houses that can be rented out may be a wise investment at the moment, one sector commentator has claimed.

However, those seeking unsecured loans may also be interested to hear that a spokesperson for online property information advisor Mouseprice also warned that an anticipation of immediate capital gain over the life of a three-year degree course might be "optimistic".

He went on to advise that investors should research the performance of the local market before opting to purchase such a rental opportunity.

Private landlords in a town where the university planned to build a lot of student accommodation may struggle, the representative added.

"The best argument for purchasing a property is because it is something that you like rather than necessarily because it is an immediately satisfactory investment," he claimed.

Meanwhile, those on the hunt for unsecured loans may also be interested to learn that research conducted by Accommodation for Students in August 2008, found that the average student rent had increased 18 per cent in the past four years to £61.64 per week.
