Despite the ongoing economic downturn putting increasing pressure on the wallets and purses of Britons, people are still not willing to sacrifice their holiday plans, one sector commentator has claimed.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson person for ABTA - The Travel Association, said that in other periods of financial crisis, the travel market has still done "relatively well".
"While not being in recession, it is certainly an area where people don't want to cut back on, they'd rather give up a brand new sofa or car rather their holidays," she added.
However, Ms Tuke explained that Britons were being realistic when it came to budgeting for their getaway plans.
According to research from VisitLondon and VisitBritain, 90 per cent of people have admitted that they are now cutting down on their spending.
In addition, many are now reducing the amount spent on purchases such as food (80 per cent), fuel (74 per cent), clothes (67 per cent) and entertainment or little luxuries (67 per cent).
