Britons are now able to choose more sustainable levels of transport, it has been claimed.
In news that may be of interest to credit card customers, John Torrance, campaigns director for Campaign for Better Transport, said people were hearing more from scientists and politicians about the environmental impact of travelling.
He added that this had led them to be more conscious about cutting their carbon emissions.
"What we are seeing with the expansion of international rail travel led by Eurostar, here from the UK, is that it's more convenient to travel from city to city," Mr Torrance explained.
Another benefit of this method of transportation over flying was a reduced chance of delays and the lack of commute from home to the airport, he concluded.
In related news that may be of interest to those with a credit card, according to the government's progress reports on transport policy published in July 2008, a quarter of carbon emissions comes from commuting journeys.
