Summer holidays 'now more expensive'

Published: 1 September 2008 in Unsecured Loans

Fewer Britons may have found themselves singing 'We're all going on a summer holiday' this year, as vacation costs increased, it has been claimed.

In news that may be of interest to those seeking unsecured loans, Bob Atkinson, travel expert at TravelSupermarket.com, said that many people may have found that what was cheap last year is noticeably more expensive now.

This was due to the reduced capacity of tour operators, rising fuel costs and a strong euro against the pound, he explained.

"You could [argue] that people have maybe left it late this year and then found there is less availability to get at and the prices are higher," Mr Atkinson concluded.

In further news that may interest those seeking unsecured loans, it has been been widely reported that the average family getaway has risen in price by as much as £400.

However, an online survey undertaken by kayak.co.uk revealed that 90 per cent of respondents said taking at least one holiday a year was one of the five most important factors that contributed to their overall happiness.
