The financial pressure on recently married couples is steadily rising, it has been claimed.
In news that may be of interest to newlyweds seeking unsecured loans, the AA has warned that many spouses could see their honeymoon period being cut short if they fail to take into account costs after the wedding is over.
Despite 87 per cent of couples paying off the cost of the ceremony immediately, they may still find themselves struggling with paying to set up home together afterwards.
Of those questioned, 3.4 million admitted the financial pressure had put a strain on their relationship.
Terry Prendergast, chief executive of Marriage Care, said: "Getting married is one of the most joyous experiences for a couple, however, the cost of weddings, honeymoons and stocking the new house all bear a cost and for many, the reality of this spending is sometimes lost in the ecstasy of romance."
In related news that may be of interest to people looking for unsecured loans, more and more Britons are getting married abroad, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association.
