Ferry travel is set to increase in popularity as people take fewer shorter breaks in light of the ongoing credit crunch, it has been suggested.
In news that may be of interest to people looking for unsecured loans, William Gibbons, director of the Passenger Shipping Association, said such transportation could be good value for money if the whole family is heading off on a getaway.
"People are concentrating more on their main summer holidays and we think people are holidaying closer to home and ferry travel is geared to [people travelling to] the near continent and to Ireland," he added.
According to a study conducted by IRN Research for the group, the number of Britons using ferries for the year up to February 2008 was 3,529,000.
This was a 3.5 per cent increase on the previous 12-month figures.
In addition to this, travellers taking their cars abroad from the Port of Dover in August were asked to compare their recent experiences going by air and by sea.
And in news that may be of interest to those seeking unsecured loans, the ferry experience got the thumbs up from seven out of ten holidaymakers.
