Credit crunch 'should ease next year'

Published: 23 September 2008
The credit crunch should begin to ease in 2009 and is likely to only last until 2010, one sector commentator has claimed.
In news that may be of interest to those seeking unsecured loans, Michael Baxter, economist at independent financial data collection and research company Defaqto, said the price of oil would also fall "quite rapidly" during the same period, as people could not afford it at its current cost.
Mr Baxter added: "I think at the same time we will see the price of food fall as well, so that suddenly we will find affordability start improving again."
He explained that he believed this was where the recovery would come, but that it probably would not be for another two years.
Meanwhile, Britons on the hunt for unsecured loans during the credit crunch may also be interested to hear that according to the latest Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets Business Barometer, confidence amongst UK firms is faltering in the face of continued economic uncertainty and remains close to an all time low.
